Antique Quintant / Sextant made by Elliott Bros, London.

A Quintant is similar to the more common and better known sextant and used in the same way.

A fine late 19th century navigators Quintant, engraved on the arc Elliott Bros, London.

The silver scale is engraved from -5  degrees to 170 degrees and can measure angles to 153 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier with glass light diffuser and the silver Vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc. 6 inch radius.

This antique Quintant / Sextant is in good condition and both of the silver scales are clear and crisply engraved. The Quintant is contained within its original hardwood box with brass carry handle. It comes with two telescopes plus a spare eye piece and one telescope sun filter.
